基本簡介(Basic Introduction):                        

牛津線上英國國家人物傳記大辭典乃美國第二部傳記大詞典American National Biography之線上版本，提供18,000餘位人物傳記資料的經典傳記辭典。
ANB之誕生可上溯至1980年代早期，當時美國學術團體理事會(The American Council of Learned Societies，ACLS)正在尋求一部新的綜合性傳記大詞典，以替代《美國傳記大詞典》(The Dictionary of American Biography，DAB)。歷經10多年的努力，牛津大學出版社終於在1999年1月推出了廿四鉅冊的ANB，這部傳記大詞典……收錄自殖民地時期迄今對美國歷史、文化、政治、社會、科技、經濟、軍事、藝術、運動等各領域有重要貢獻的人物18,000餘位，篇幅達20,000,000字，23,000餘頁。
